Argentina: Strange Lights over the Islands of Ibicuy
Residents of the Entre Rios delta report that the rural roads of the Ibicuy Islands have again become the scenario for strange flashing lights, making unexpected appearances. "This is the second time it has happened during a trip that I've made from my town in Mazaruca to Ibicuy in the wilderness, at night. Some sort of incandescent lights appear, looking like flashes, lighting everything suddenly and then disappearing," claims a local resident.
A resident of the Mazaruca area of the Ibicuy Islands adds that the lights "will flood your car, like flashes, bursts, that light you up and then vanish."
"I don't think it’s the infamous evil light as many believe, since there are many stories [about them]. They don't harm you, but one is startled by the fact that they're so bright and then vanish, you almost don't get a chance to notice it, as it occurs so quickly, in a matter of seconds." The man withheld is identity in order to provide his eyewitness account.
Meanwhile, the recalled a similar experience some time ago. “I was in the company of a nephew. We were stunned, didn't know what to do about the situation, and we were even somewhat ashamed to tell our relatives, but we did it. Some believed us, others didn't."
However, this man who has his home in the rural area continued to make his usual trip without further hindrances over the years, but notes that on one such occasion: "I faced a similar light again. That scared me, because I was alone. Luckily I was unharmed," he explained. "There are many legends about the origin of these lights. Some say that these are wandering spirits and other things. The fact is that I'm not very clear about what's going on, but I've seen them on two other instances, and no one can deny me that."
Local residents are not surprised by the questions posed by AIM regarding the strange lights that cross the skies or descend toward the vehicles. They say: "Many have seen them and won't say it due to mockery, or a fear of being dismissed as madmen or drunkards," according to a local teacher. "People from the islands spend a lot of time alone, engaging in hunting or fishing, and spend months in the wilderness on certain occasions. The lights appear in this loneliness, cross their paths, or appear suddenly when they're at the river's edge, fishing. It is very hard for others to believe them unless they've seen it with their own eyes."
