Supernatural: "Refugees Claim Jesus Appeared to Save Them From Dying at Sea"

[While having nothing to do with UFOs, readers of Inexplicata will remember an article from 2005, "High Strangeness: Our Haunted Seas", which makes mention of similar situations elsewhere in the world. The rational, debunking explanation is dehydration and the terror of dying in the ocean, but there are elements that suggest otherwise. Our thanks to Andrés Salvador for drawing our attention to this matter -- SC]

When a powerful storm threatened to overwhelm a vessel conveying refugees fleeing from the Middle East, a miraculous apparition of Jesus Christ calmed the waters and saved the refugees' lives.

This surprising account was shared by Erick Schenkel, director of the "Jesus Film" project, which has reached communities around the world that do not know the Gospel.

"A group of refugees fleeing from the conflict in the Middle East was trapped while crossing the Aegean Sea toward Greece," says Schenkel.

The sea is extremely dangerous and many ships crossing the area are forced to turn back.

Terrified, Erick says the refugees began calling on God for help. "Suddenly, a brilliant, celestial figure appeared on the boat. Everyone aboard knew it was Jesus," he says.

The refugees were so convinced that it was a miracle, and that their experience had been real, that they decided to commit their lives to Christ.

Aside from facing a hazardous sea crossing, thousands of Syrian and Iraqi families have spent their nights in abandoned buildings, warehouses, garages and open spaces, says Erick.

To change this circumstance, the Jesus Film project is distributing solar-powered LED lights at refugee camps. The lamps include an audio playback unit and a speaker that contains the Gospel.

"In one instance, a missionary didn't have enough time to tell the refugee about the audio contained in the lamp. The next day, the refugee said to the missionary with joy: "You've not only given me light, you've given me the light of the world!"
