Mexico: Maussán's Alien Baby
The Internet has been abuzz for a few days now with the story and lurid images of an alleged “alien baby” found in Mexico. Sensational discoveries such as this are usually good to keep the phenomenon in the media, but rarely serve any useful purpose (readers of Inexplicata will remember the “alien in a bottle” from Puerto Rico in 1997, which wound up being a mass-produced keychain)
But, for the sake of completeness, here’s what a Madrid-based newspaper had to say on the story:

Did this Creature Come From Another World or Does the Story Conceal a Hoax?
MADRID – Jaime Maussán, 56, a Mexican TV host, broke the incredible case: An “extraterrestrial baby” was caught in a trap in May 2007. Up to now, scientists have been unable to investigate it and obtain results as to the nature of the creature.
Maussán, an expert in ufology, reported this on his show and displayed the first images.
“I’m certain it’s authentic.” He learned of the story by pure chance. Up to late last year, the owners of the farm did not turn over the mysterious being to have tests performed at a university and analyze its DNA.
Farmers heard the “alien baby” scream; driven by fear, they immersed it in water and drowned it on the third attempt. Early research results have only now been disclosed: it is not an animal known on Earth. Its physical makeup shows non-human traits (such as teeth designed to survive in a watery environment) and others that do correspond to humans (such as the build of its joints).
The “alien baby” had an extremely large brain, especially in its rear, which in humans is connected to learning and memorization. This has prompted scientists to suggest that the creature could be extremely intelligent.
Countless reports of UFO sightings and strange marks in the cornfields have been reported from the part of Mexico where the creature appeared. It is for this reason that they suggest that it could be a small alien who was left behind.
UFO expert Jaime Maussán is seeking new explanations. Peasants have told him that there was a second creature on the farm: it took off running when the peasants approached the trap.
