Spain: Cádiz - A UFO Hotspot

Spain: Cádiz – A UFO Hotspot
By Angel Carretero, Andalucía Misteriosa

I’ve spoken much of triangular UFOs and hotspots, adding that over the course of the years, UFO cases have diminished in those areas. I also said that this reduction was due to an increase in knowledge by the witnesses. Explanations were found for objects or phenomena for which no explanation could be found at the time, so sightings diminished.

Something similar occurred in Cádiz. A considerable number of phenomena have been documented, mainly in the area of the bay, in the 1970s and 80s, while sightings are practically non-existent there today.

Regular readers of my blog can readily ascertain that the references I make to these phenomena go back in time. But the year 2010 arrived and brought some more or less interesting things with it.

On 20 January of that year, as the day drew to a close, a couple driving along N-340 heading toward Algeciras (Cádiz) saw two dimly-lit bars or columns over Sierra del Retín. They saw them for the first time around Venta Tejonero, and the objects followed them up to Zahara de los Atunes.

Months later, on 15 August, around 18:00 hours and at the beaches in Sanlucar de Barrameda, two people noticed a luminous sphere crossing the sky over the sea at a distance of about one kilometer; it wobbled erratically and remained motionless during short periods of time.

I’ve placed a broad critique on both cases in Andalucia Misteriosa (www.andaluciamisteriosa.es.tl) within the section devoted to Andalusian case histories, as well as others that took place in our community that year.

Lacking a detailed study of these events, I can set on record that Sierra del Retín is used for maneuvers by the Spanish and U.S. armed forces. Nocturnal firing exercises are conducted, and in the past, they employed something similar to a pillar of light to illuminate the targets. Currently, laser beams are employed.

I do not wish to state unequivocally that this could be the explanation for the first sighting: however, it is a possibility to be taken into consideration.

In due time, I will include a detailed project on the subject in Andalucía Misteriosa.
