1973 UFO Flap: The Maricao State Forest CE-1

While the mainland U.S.bore the brunt of the 1973 UFO Wave, Puerto Rico was not found wanting for strange experiences of its own. On October 26 that year, two engineers working on communications in the island's mountainous interior would join the ranks of UFO experiencers.
Guillermo Bonet, a communications engineer, in the company of Jorge Silvestri, a technician, stared in amazement at a UFO for between twenty minutes and half an hour in the skies over Monte del Estado. This  summit in the Cordillera Central housed radio broadcast transmitters, repeaters and antennae. Even more curious is the fact that the summit's location - the Maricao State Forest - was a known magnetic anomaly notorious for UFO sightings, studied by Ralph Sierra, also an engineer and prominent UFO researcher of that time. 
At 11:00 a.m. Silvestri and Bonet were testing radio systems when  they became aware of a blinding, white source of energy. The object, self-luminous, remained motionless for three or four minutes while the witnesses exchanged opinions about it nature. The object then "began to descend and rise abruptly" as it headed westward at a leisurely pace. Its apparent size was 'twice that of a house'.
