Argentina: Five Goats Mutilated in Santiago del Estero

**Event took place in Paraje Sarmiento, Alberdi District**
**Five goats born under normal conditions; found with injuries on their heads and missing organs**

Report From: Teresa Papalardo in Santiago del Estero
Place Discovered: Paraje Sarmiento, Alberdi District, Santiago del Estero
Date Discovered: 20 September
Type of Animal: Goat
Quantity: Five (5)
Property Of: Veliz Santillán

Account of the Facts

ALBERDI – Five goats were found dead in the Sarmiento wilderness, Department of Alberdi, with strange perforations in their heads through which their entrails and other organs may have been extracted, according to owners.

The peasant family that came across the mutilated goat carcasses said, “there were only hides to be found in the pens, as if the goats were little more than bags. They had an orifice, a well-executed incision in their heads.”

The strange event occurred in recent days in a remote wilderness that is hard to reach, and where a family surnamed Santillán ekes out a living, occupying a ramshackle house. Véliz Santillán is the head of household, living there with his wife and three sons. “A few days ago I woke up early, as I do every morning, and went to the goat pen. We found that five kids, born the day before, were now dead.”

His son Abraham, 21, continued the story: “This isn’t the first time something like this has happened to us, but we’d never seen something so odd. The animal’s hide was left like a bag, and the only wound or incision it had seemed to be made by a tool or some precision instrument. Furthermore, the hole was in the head and it looks like they took out the entrails, kidneys, liver and some bones through it. It’s a well-made cut. For this reason we don’t think it was a predator.”

Elias Santillán, the oldest of the three brothers, said: “I think this is out of the ordinary. The animals’ hide was turned in a bag. Even their bones were taken out through that single hole.” The Santilláns say that they heard no unusual noises the night of the event; not even the dogs gave any hint that something was going on. However, they remember that at a given moment, when the family was readying itself for bed, they felt a sudden and intense gust of wind. “It was accompanied by a strong, nauseating rotten odor, which suddenly went away,” they explained, adding: “That was the night before. The next day, when we woke up, we found the five mutilated goat kids.”

The place where the events took place is 100 kilometers into the wilderness from Campo Gallo, a hard to reach area, inhabited by a small number of peasant families.

Argentina: Concern Over Cattle Mutilations in the Santo Domingo Rural Area

Argentina: Concern Over Cattle Mutilations in the Santo Domingo Rural Area

Correspondents in Progreso
El Litoral Newsroom

Three calves were attacked – one dead, the other put down, the third still alive – by something that remains unidentified. Furthermore, the type of incision made makes it a true mystery.

Dr. Jorge Tevez, a veterinarian with many years of experience and well-known throughout the region, performed an examination of the animals and told El Litoral that ranchers need not be alarmed, or retreat into the world of fantasy.

“One thing I’m certain of is that the incisions made on these calves were not man-made, nor by any animal, at least not the of the kind we know. As can be seen from the photographs, the incision is behind the upper part of the neck, in a circular manner,” noted the expert.

Tevez noted that there are many striking features, for example: “not a single drop of blood was spilled on the site, and the hide was nowhere to be found. The incision is so exact that if I had to give you an example, it would be like running your finger along the rim of a dirty dish.”

Moreover, the veterinarian dismissed the likelihood of a puma attack. “First of all, when a feline eats, it tears the flesh. Second, the pen is too near the house, and if a puma enters a pen, the other calves would be frightened, and this did not occur.”

The site has been illuminated in recent nights and guards posted, to no avail.

“We are facing something strange, but I can tell you that in all my years as a veterinarian, I’ve never seen anything like it,” stated the vet.

Antonio Convi, a local cattleman, shared his concern over the deaths of the two calves in the tambo (milking yard) and an attack on a third one in a conversation with the Agroeventos radio show, which airs from 7 to 9 o’clock on LT 9 AM-1150. These animals suffered strange mutilations.

“We endured three attacks to smaller animals from Monday to Wednesday of this week. [The attackers] are noticeably due to their voraciousness. They eat the back of the animal’s neck and its hump, hide, flesh, tendons and all. The first two victims were in a serious condition and died, and the third survived.”

Covi added that the helpless animal was tied to a stake in the guachera (pen for orphaned calves) some 25 meters distant from the backyard, and nothing was heard. Even the [other] animals seemed peaceful.

“It’s impressive, due to the wound inflicted on the animal, which is very strange. This week we kept a watch but saw nothing,” said the cattleman on the Agroventos airwaves, visibly concerned.

The Zahara de los Atunes CE-3 Revisited (1939)

Source: Andalucía Misteriosa
Date: 17 September 2012

Spain: Humanoids at Zahara de los Atunes (1939)

[This is a case that keeps reappearing in the “occupant” chronicles – twice this year in Inexplicata alone! This third appearance is also from the files of Angel Carretero, but in a more schematic representation.]

Case Number: 19390700
Date: July 1939
Time:
12:00
Location: Zahara de los Atunes
Province: Cadiz
Witnesses: M. Jimenez Junquera, 5 goatherds and several children
Object Description: Object measuring between 15 and 20 meters long with 2 humanoids
Available Documentation: Enciclopedia de los Encuentros Cercanos (Ballester Olmos)
Catálogo General del Fenómeno OVNI/Europa, p. 65 (Gabriel Wuldennar Ortiz)
Researcher: Several researchers
Miscellaneous: The exact location of the phenomenon was “Finca Los Majales” – according to researchers, the imprint left by the object endured until 1980. The eyewitnesses told their story in 1990. The object was 30 meters distant from the eyewitnesses.
Guidelines to Follow: See remarks in the attached sheet; study press reports from that time and the location (Cadiz and Gibraltar)
HUMANOIDS: Two beings with one-piece outfits, rigid appearance; the outfits had horizontal blue stripes and were “moldy green” in color; large dark holes instead of eyes; straps at the belt fastening a large backpack, from which protrudes an antenna; one entity was tall and thin, the other was somewhat shorter and stouter. The entitles emitted flashes of light --from a sort of torch on their belts – toward a shack adjacent to a cattle pen.
Remarks by Angel Carretero Olmedo: I am startled by the amount of information they are able to provide such a long time after the event. If the imprint was visible until 1980 (40 years), the event should be known and a matter of discussion at the location. It is for this reason that I fail to comprehend the interest evinced by researchers in 1990 and not earlier, unless it could perhaps be related to some sort of event during the Spanish Civil War. The beings’ description (large backpack with a protruding antenna, rigid suits, something dangling from the back) may recall an astronaut’s pressure suit, or even perhaps two soldiers emerging from a helicopter.

Event Report: SIGHTING OF AN OBJECT AND TWO HUMANOIDS AROUND 12:00 NOON ONE DAY IN JULY 1939 AT ZAHARA DE LA SIERRA (CADIZ)

One day in 1939, several children – M. Jimenez Junquera among them – were looking after the cattle in Zahara de los Atunes (Cadiz) and noticed an unidentified flying object measuring some 18 meters in diameter. When the UFO flew over them at low altitude, they felt a sensation of heat.

The object landed some 30 meters distant from them, kicking up a large dust storm. Subsequently, a door opened, and from within the object came two beings – one tall and the other short and stout, wearing one-piece outfits and with a rigid aspect, bearing torches that lit the surrounding area, despite the fact that it was midday.

They wore “suspenders” that fastened a large backpack, from which protruded something like an antenna. The beings had large dark sockets in their heads instead of eyes.

After walking some 20 paces from the UFO, they turned around and re-entered it. The encounter lasted some fifteen minutes, approximately. Upon takeoff, the object left an imprint on the ground which according to several researchers was visible until 1980.

The next day, they advised the senior goatherd and returned to the site with him, where they found the imprint.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Curiously, there is a case from 1938 contained in J.J. Benitez’s outstanding La Punta del Iceberg (The Tip of the Iceberg – Ed. Planeta, 1983) that dovetails in its own strange way with the CE-3 contained in Angel Carretero’s files. Mariano Melgar, born in 1931, was a restless seven year old who was sent by his parents to live with relatives in the town of Muñico in the province of Avila. While tending to the family cows one summer noon, he led the animals to a grazing area near a small wooded area with a clear, cold brook. According to Benitez, young Mariano was sitting in the shade when he heard a buzzing sound (a common feature in many UFO incidents) and saw a spark of light in the clear blue skies: it was a “round object, some 15 to 20 meters in diameter, with a small dome in its upper section...with colored lights all around it. The fuselage shone like burnished aluminum and it had two round windows, like portholes on a ship” (p.42).

Two oddly-garbed entities descended from the craft, stepping a few meters away to fill what the boy took for a “sack” with samples of soil. A third entity remained by the craft’s doorway, and it was precisely this third “ufonaut” who fired a beam of light against young Mariano when – moved by childish curiosity – he came out of his retreat to approach the first two. “I hadn’t covered five meters when the one who remained at the hatch opening fired a flash at me that nearly knocked me backwards. It frightened me and I retreated back into the treeline.” Determined to get closer, the farmboy was repelled a second time by a flash that nearly blinded him.

Once the apparent soil-sample mission was over, the two ufonauts rejoined their companion. The beam-firing ufonaut waved at the boy – “it was the typical wave of someone saying farewell...from there I saw the takeoff of the object. First they retracted the ramp, then the door closed. Within seconds, the object ascended 50 to 100 meters, gyrating on its axis and with many visible lights. It then took off toward Barco de Avila.” (p.46)

The Melgar CE-3 was dismissed as “a boy’s recollections of pilots from the Spanish Civil War” – either Republican pilots flying Soviet-made Polikarpov I-6s or the opposition’s Junkers Ju-52’s. All this despite the fact that neither the humanoid occupants nor their craft resembled these aircraft or their gallant pilots in the least. Not a single circular wing aircraft – or any object that could be construed as round or spherical – was present during that conflict.

Were these occupants the same ones seen a year later in Zahara de los Atunes? Who can say?

Chile: The Mothman Visits La Serena

Chile: The Mothman Visits La Serena

According to a compilation of background information given to us by our contributor Sergio Alcayaga, a native of the city of La Serena, a strange incident took place in the heart of this city in the year 1987. Everything points to this incident having been silenced by the witnesses themselves in the light of the strangeness of the observation, which was utterly out-of-place and hard to understand.

The deceased person shown in the photograph – Carlos Manuel Arancibia Esquivel – was a close friend of our contributor Alcayaga, and it was the witness himself who told the story to friends and relatives on many occasions. The experience haunted him to the end of his days.

It all began when Carlos Manuel went to pick up his mother at her place of work. It was during the summer months (January or February, he couldn’t quite remember) and the time was around 23:00 hours. As he went by Plaza Buenos Aires, always busy, he noticed that several drivers and passengers of the Linea de Transportes Colectivos No.14 (La Serena-Las Compañías) were looking at a tall street lamp. To his amazement, he noticed they were staring at a large bird with tremendous wings and oddly humanoid features. The strange winged being was resting on a power line, and at a given moment, it issued a loud squawk that spread panic among the witnesses, causing many of them to hurriedly abandon the area.

It would seem that [the witness] tried to assimilate this event by avoiding any discussion of it over the years. Our contributor has tried to find others who could perhaps recall more details as to what occurred in that instance. His search has led him to find some old bus drivers who were present the night the event occurred. When questioned, they did not deny that it had indeed occurred, but flatly refused to provide background information or details when asked for more information, given that they do not wish to seem fantasy-prone or angling for the limelight.

This isn’t the first time that a news item of this sort has reached our newsroom from the La Serena region. In another instance, Ivan Voreved, another active IIEE contributor, got in touch with a family returning home along a dirt road at midnight. Suddenly, they saw a black shadow descending from the sky some two hundred meters (650 feet) ahead of them. The shadow landed gently on the dirt road the family was traversing. At first, they thought it was a plastic trash bag carried by the prevailing winds at the time. We can imagine their surprise when the shadow flew off as they approached, to the sound of loud beating wings. The family members managed to see a sort of giant bird with humanoid features in silent flight. The width of its wings was described as “immense”.

At present, we are compiling more background information on this event. Hopefully, when we make it available, it will include the backing of the witnesses to the event, who have never forgotten the “immense bird or flying creature” with nearly human features – an event that took place in the now-distant summer of 1987 in the lovely city of La Serena.

What did those drivers and their passengers see that night?

Utsuro Bune: A UFO in Name Only
By César Reyes de Roa
(c)2009

Did an alien vessel reach the coasts of Japan in 1803?

This has been more or less the question that many have asked since History Channel broadcasted a documentary about an old Japanese legend, displaying certain ancient drawings to the public that many did not hesitate to associate with an artistic depiction of a UFO. Or rather, the commonly held notions of the “rounded” shape of the unidentified object in question.

The story first became known in Japan well into the 19th century through two books that were compilations of various curious events and fictional items based on the Japanese folklore of the time: the “Toen Shosetsu” and the “Ume no Chiri” published in 1825 and 1844, respectively. Both works included the same story, more or less, under the same title: “Foreign Woman in a Hollow Boat”. The story goes that on 22 February 1803, the residents of a Japanese village (modern Ibaragi) saw a strange vessel floating in the sea and slowly approaching the shore. When some fishermen set out on their craft to meet it, and then towed to the beach, they found within it a young woman – some 20 years old – of unusual physiognomy, with pink skin and long red hair, who spoke to them in an unknown language as she clung to a wooden box. An object of considerable importance to her, it seemed, as she would allow no one to touch it. The craft, also unknown to the locals, was round and rather small, measuring some 5.5 meters across and some 3 meters tall. Its upper section was black and had colored glass windows covered with grating, forming four windows whose edges were protected by some sort of tar. The lower part was reinforced with iron sheets and its interior was covered in handwriting the natives couldn’t recognize. There was a soft rug and food and water for the strange lady.

This, then, is what the aforementioned texts say on the matter. The image depicted above shows an old illustration from those same texts, which, according to some, represent the spacecraft, found adrift by the uninformed Japanese witnesses in 1803.

In Context

Utsuro Bune (or Utsuro Fune) literally means ‘hollow boat’ in Japanese – not a bad description to convey what the villagers saw floating toward them, a small vessel like a rice bowl. but was it really the “strange craft” in of itself, or the young red-haired foreigner that caused a sensation worthy of inclusion in the compilations of oddities at the time?

True or not, the fact is that the story told in the 1825 and 1844 Japanese books corresponds to the Tokugawa period (1603-1867) when Japan was isolated from the rest of the world, living in a wholly feudal society (the shogunate) and avoiding all foreign influences. especially western. It isn’t surprising then that the presence of “someone who came from afar” (a foreigner) would be cause for conversation...whether for or against Japanese isolationism.

Some very likely interpretations about the red-haired woman’s identity have been put forth, and perhaps those who suggest paying attention be given to ancient Russian customs -- dealing with unfaithful wives – are correct. The harsh law unwritten law mandated decapitation for the male, his head placed in a box that was later given to the woman, who was then expelled from the community by placing her aboard a small boat, towed out to sea, and then abandoned to her fate.

The proximity between Russia and Japan fosters this hypothesis. Much better, of course, than any passing idea that suggests relating the red-haired woman in the “hollow boat” with visitors from another world.

Utsuro Bune

Moreover, what is there in the vessel’s description that leads to any connection between the advanced technologies that one would suppose of a UFO, if these indeed come from distant worlds?

Nothing. Nothing at all.

The only argument – unsustainable per se – that has been repeated blissfully and unabashedly by the supporters of this free association of UtusroBune = UFO is based on the rounded shape visible in the ancient drawings. Nothing more. A consideration that would be equally convincing to these supporters of easy explanations if they were to see an old illustration of the Thung Chai, a traditional round vessel measuring 2 meters across, made of bamboo and covered in pitch, used by Vietnamese fishermen to this very day.

Under no circumstances does one conjure up a hypothesis by merely spewing out the first thought that comes to one’s head. Any judgment made without examination is pure fancy, a pure fancy that leads nowhere. The same applies to many wild stories that turn research into possibly alien visitation to our world into a marginal affair, deemed unsavory by the majority of the scientific community.

Having said this, let us now put the “Utsuro Bune = UFO” into perspective, with its colored glass windows and tar waterproofing, and its lower section reinforced with steel plates, not forgetting the soft mat within it. Let us imagine it for a moment as an instrument capable of the most daring space exploit by an exotic, technologically advanced civilization. We may well laugh out loud, thinking it’s a prank.

There is a well-know anecdote about Sigmund Freud, the Austrian physician and neurologist, who entered a room in which he would lecture on phallic symbols, all the while smoking a cigar. This prompted a sharp remark from a young and eager student. The reply given by the father of psychoanalysis was as simple as it was final: “Sometimes a cigar is only a cigar.”

Likewise, sometimes a ‘hollow boat’ is only a ‘hollow boat’.

The author studied law at the University of Buenos Aires (Argentina) and is a science journalist and documentary coordinator for Cuarta Dimension magazine, editor of other specialized publications, and is currently the editor of antiguosastronautas.com. Since 1980, he has published a number of articles regarding the hypothesis of extraterrestrial visits in the Earth’s past.

Chile: An Interdimensional Vision? Strange Experience in Concepcion
By Anonymous
(Source: From the files of Raul Gajardo Lepold)

The story I am about to tell has never been published, nor has it been written down, But I decided that in spite of any doubts I may have, it is better to tell the story.
Downtown Concepción, next to its lovely Plaza de Armas (town square), has always been a very busy area due to its strong commercial attraction. What I am recalling here always occurred in the afternoon and did not go on for longer than one month.

Specifically, I began to notice a certain type of person: Tall, white-skinned, unaccompanied, with nearly automatic movements, straight backs, males whose ages ranged between youth and middle age, and no females at all. Their clothing was commonplace. What was it then that startled me? The napes of their necks. They wore no headgear of any sort. The napes of their necks could be seen in a straight angle, which is not customary, with flat occipital bones. This made their appearance unforgettable. I think I must have seen at least ten people matching this description. After all these years, which add up to sixty-eight, I have never seen them again despite the fact that I have covered most of this nation's territory.

Another characteristic was their thinness: normal features, hair running from black to dark blonde, combed backward. Angular faces, average height, but rather tall and with somewhat elongated noses.

Despite the passing of years, this memory has remained indelible in my memory and I can assure you it isn't adolescent fantasy. I am a person with good powers of observation. Of course, I shared these experiences with the friends I had at the time, who also marveled, much like myself, that those strange people were not recognized as customary visitors to the downtown area, unlike ourselves, who went there every afternoon to enjoy our idle and carefree student lives.

Editor's Note: Upon consulting the files of IIEE Chile, another resident of this city - Alejandro Verdugo Garay - had a similar experience, and also had subsequent ones with strange beings, completely out of context, in the Nahuelbuta Mountains.

(With no exact dates or references, this story remains clearly anecdotal. However, it is interesting to see that the descriptions of the supposedly strange entities matches the "Nordic" beings associated with the Friendship Island mystery that has baffled Chilean researchers for decades - SC)

Chile: A Flying Humanoid over Santiago

Chile: A Flying Humanoid over Santiago (1990)
By Sigrid Grothe

Businessman Federico Rojo Feria provided us with a truly amazing story. During the spring of 1990, while at the Torre de Santa María building with female a co-worker, he found himself watching a human-looking flying entity from the 19th storey of the building. His account of the facts states that the vision was so surprising and shocking that both co-workers were paralyzed for almost two minutes -- the uncanny experience's duration.

Raul Nuñez interviewed Mr. Rojo and kindly conveyed the report to our Bestiary. The witness re-stated his experiences of the time, saying that a flying entity passed only a few meters away from the large window at which they were located, engaging in a wide elliptical flight maneuver, gliding over the Mapocho River before climbing away toward the Cordillera.

The wings were like those of a giant bird, but the other parts of the body were configured like a human's. He was unable to make out the arms clearly, as they blended into the shape of the large wings.

The witnesses were traumatized for several weeks by the sighting. One of them became so panicked that he refused to speak of the subject again and his behavior toward his co-workers changed. To date, it has not been possible to find this last witness to hear their version of the events stated in this report.

In scanning through newspaper files, this has not been the only manifestation of human-shaped flying creatures over Santiago and its surroundings. The late journalist Osvaldo Muray wrote in the defunct "Revelación" magazine about another flying being resting on a tree in the village of Juanita Aguirre in the 1990s. Eyewitness accounts similar to this one can be found elsewhere in the world.

This event has been set down for any interested parties. It would also be interesting to learn whether any of our readers could contribute other information on the subject that we may have overlooked, or any similar eyewitness account.
