Chile: UFOs Over the Atacama Region
By Carlos Opazo - Red Atacama

Province of Huasco, Atacama Region - In the Commune of Alto del Carmen, the skies are known as being among the most pristine in all Chile. Constellations, stars, satellites and anything crossing the zenith of this cordilleran sector can be seen by the unaided eye at night.

But for some time now, stars and constellations are not the only things visible in the skies of the Valle de Huasco. Strange flying objects have been seen as well, drawing the viewer's attention and causing a bit of fear.

Some stories indicate that a long time ago, locals and residents of Alto del Carmen witnessed a large luminous ball falling out toward the valley, and which caused the same expectation, fear and astonishment as the event that occurred last year in the same community. According to witnesses of the phenomenon, a powerful beam of light crossed the commune and crashed into the cordillera, followed by a strong subterranean tremor. That's not all. There are those who claim having seen extraterrestrial beings in the area, although there is no evidence of this. Likewise, such sectors as Crucecita, Pinte and Chollay report the presence of strange objects over the valley's skies. Julio Inostroza, former radio controller of the commune, notes: "There are many locals who claim having seen flying objects over the commune, but this isn't the first time."

Inostroza follows the UFO subject. He claims to be a contactee whose mission it is to spread the awareness of the existence of these entities. His experience is considerable and he has photographic and audiovisual documentation on sightings.

Another witness to these events, who did not want to disclose his identity, stated that he'd seen strange phenomena over the valley on two occasions. "Once, I was walking in the dark toward my home in a not very well-lit sector of the valley. I realized that there were three lights forming a triangle in the sky, moving little by little in the sky in parallel." He says that he was not frightened at first by the event, but when the lights vanished quickly, he started walking somewhat more briskly to reach his home. The same witness notes that a friend of his from the locality of Mitencillo, 50 kilometers toward the coast, witnessed the same spectacle at the same time in the northern night.

A former municipal official of Alto del Carmen admits having witnessed a phenomenon two years ago, having to do with the light the crossed Valle del Carmen toward the Andean Range, and which caused such fear among locals. "I had the same experience 40 years ago. I was in the interior of the valley when I heard a very loud noise, made by something falling. I didn't see it - I only heard the loud noise, since I was inside a home. The people outside told me that a very bright light had crossed the valley toward the cordillera. The mayor at the time sent a team of municipal workers to scour every corner of the valley, along with Carabineros (state police), and they could find nothing at all.

A few years ago, Vallenar and Alto del Carmen held a UFO convention where distinguished researchers visited the commune to discuss the matter of sightings. Various theories, studies and investigative approaches were put forth at the event, making the UFO phenomenon better known in Chile, but questions still remain: Are we alone? Are we the only living creatures in the galaxy? Are we visited by strange beings? Are we alone in the Huasco?

The answers can be found in each our personal experiences. Seeing is believing.

Mexico: A UFO Recorded at Colima's Volcan de Fuego?
Newsroom - SDPNoticias.com

Wed 28 JAN 2015 18:32 - A photo taken by the Webcams de Mexico website shows an unidentified flying object around Colima's Volcan de Fuego during an emanation recorded this morning.

MEXICO CITY - The activity of Colima's Volcan de Fuego, recorded over recent weeks, featured an unusual element this morning.

The Webcams de Mexico site captured the moment in which an unidentified flying object (UFO) circles the area, which has for days exhibited emanations and explosions of incandescent material and volcanic ash falls.

The image was disseminated this morning and the size of the object is not fully apparent. However, its shape presents a slender upper section, a more protuberant midsection and two extremities in its lower end.

Intense activity at the volcano is ongoing, and is being monitored by the Protección Civil national office. A video was also published yesterday of the phenomenon known as a "golden explosion" in the colossal volcano's crater.

Argentina: Strange Light Alarms Residents of Frias (Santiago del Estero)

A strange phenomenon was seen yesterday afternoon and recorded by several residents of the city of Frias in the department of Choya.

A strange light could be seen making maneuvers in the heavens. This went on until the "point" of light disappeared.

Residents recorded this phenomenon with their cellphone cameras and sent the information to the Noticias de Nuevo Diario Whatsapp Feed (385-523-3425).

"What we saw was similar to a meteorite," some readers told us through social media.

Others pointed out: "All of us were startled in our home. We could see something like a dot that emitted light in the sky and moved to and fro."

Throughout yesterday afternoon, the phenomenon was the most discussed matter in the "City of Friendship". Everyone was astonished. To some it was their first experience with a phenomenon of these characteristics, while others said "it wasn't the first time something like this has happened. We witnessed something similar last year."

Argentina's Gualeguaychú UFO: An IFO?

Source:www.aimdigital.com.ar
Date: 01.22.2015

Argentina's Gualeguaychú UFO an IFO?

In recent weeks, videos of a "UFO" recorded over Gualeguaychú have been broadcast over the local and national media, showing a celestial object that has attracted the attention of locals. Phenomena of this sort occur on a daily basis and through this article submitted to AIM, specialists of the Asociacion Entrerriana Astronomica de Entre Rios (Entre Rios Astronomical Association - AEA) have tried to explain certain characteristics to enable identification.
For over 60 years, humankind has had a presence in space through its machines, highly technical devices that go around the Earth time and again in all manner of orbits. Some of these objects, due to their orbital characteristics, altitude, eccentricity, etc. are visible at certain moments of the day. They do not generate their own light, but rather, reflect the light of the sun. The most famous of these are the International Space Station and the Iridium satellites.

The ISS (International Space Station) is an object measuring over 100 meters long that orbits our planet at 27,600 kilometers an hour at an altitude of 431 kilometers. It has roughly the same size as a soccer pitch. It orbits our planet since 1988 and has a permanent population of 6 astronauts that rotates every six months, approximately. This monumental object is visible to the unaided eye shortly after sunset (for a few hours) or shortly before sunrise (for a few hours). Being a large object, it reflects the sun in the summertime, it is very bright, and given its speed and continuous light (it does not blink like aircraft), it is often cataloged as a UFO.

Video enthusiasts often show it with color variations, ranging from red to blue and passing through yellow. This is due to the optical properties of cameras, particularly cell phones. Furthermore, when photos are taken, improvised means are used to steady the photo device, using hands, and with the consequent motion. To illustrate this, we provide a video taken by a member of the AEA and involving an ISS sighting.

As for Iridium satellites, the situation is even more striking. In many opportunities, these satellites seem to appear and disappear "in an instant". This is known as a flare. If it is recorded, you will see a light that appears and disappears, provide that the satellite's path isn't fully visible. In this case, the satellite's entire trajectory will be visible, with an increase of brightness, followed by a dimming or disappearance.
Iridium communication satellites have an unusual shape, with three highly polished antenna with 120 degrees of separation between them. Every so often,
one of these antennas reflects sunlight directly back to Earth, creating a bright "fake star" for a few seconds.

The phenomenon has an approximate magnitude of -8 (rarely reaching -9.5). Some flares are so bright they can even be seen by daylight, but are more impressive at night. These light flashes can sometimes be a nuisance to astronomers, as they disturb observations and can even damage sensitive equipment.
The night of the Gualeguaychú UFO (unidentified flying object, not to be confused with "alien spaceship") was a very active one in the skies over Entre Rios. Within a span of 3 hours, from 21:00, it was possible to see the ISS, two visible transits of the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) and two Iridium satellite flashes. One of them, Iridium satellite 75, was particularly flashy, as it executed its entire trajectory with a -3.9 magnitude and with a -6.2 magnitude flare. Both magnitudes are very bright and stand out in the sky. As if this wasn't enough, the satellite appeared to "vanish" in an instant, due to the fact that the sun ceased to light it (none of these objects is self-luminous). Was the object seen over Gualeguaychú one of these? Maybe, although confirmation would require other information that would make this hypothesis a certainty.

Argentina: A UFO in Villa Ocampo, Santa Fe?

The strange object was recorded by fishermen in the river area. This is not the first time that such phenomena have taken place in the Santa Fe locality.

"Once again, fishermen from the town of Villa Ocampo in the province of Santa Fe were startled by a UFO," said Sofy Grey to viewers of the TN y la Gente program.

"Extraterrestrial" apparitions of this sort have been seen before in Villa Ocampo, Santa Fe.

On January 5 [2015], a UFO surprised a group of local fishermen in a branch of the Parana River. People at the "Ave Fenix" lodge, at the river's edge, were astonished by the phenomenon, while locals confirm that such apparitions are customary in the area. A few months ago, only kilometers from the town known as El Sombrerito, oddly-mutilated animals were found with their jawbones removed. These same farmers say that these luminous objects are being seen more frequently at any time in the place.

Argentina: Disc With Strange Figures at Coronel Pringles (1954)

Argentina: Disc With Strange Figures at Coronel Pringles (1954)
By Robert Banchs

The news corresponds to the end of a year that was rich in reports on strange manifestations of “flying saucers” and their landings on European soil, in particular. It heralded a rise in sightings worldwide.

On 5 December 1954, Buenos Aires’s “La Razón” newspaper reported – with glaring errors – that “Mr. Enrique Aguirre Zabala, employed at a shop in this city, and who is on vacation on a property that a brother of his owns on the outskirts of Coronel Pringles (Province of Buenos Aires), left the home yesterday at 6 to do some groceries, and saw a luminous disk in space that changed shape as it approached, becoming a “cigar-shaped” structure. When the strange object came within 80 meters of Aguirre, he tried to approach it, but was kept from doing so by the strength of the light it put out, and which blinded him. He says, however, that ‘using his hands as a screen, I advanced until I was perfectly able to see the strange device was half a meter over the ground, and that a strange figure could be seen moving within the disk.’ Aguirre added that it resembled a ‘large-headed dwarf.’ Shortly after there was a sudden, vivid flash of light and the disk rose into the air, vanishing toward to north.”

The Investigation

Coronel Pringles is a locality in the southeastern reaches of the Province of Buenos Aires, largely flat with small mountain ranges from the Ventania group. Its temperate, Pampean and sub-humid climate characterize it as an agricultural area.

A quick consultation with the Post Office and the Township led us to a store called “Los Corrales”, to the northeast and bordering with the urban waste water treatment facility, near the cemetery. It was there that we found Américo Rodolfo Aguirrezabala, who admitted to being the sole witness of the case in question. It became evident that the newspaper article suffered from errors, causing us to entreat him to give us a detailed description of the event, bearing in mind that many aspects had been forgotten and that had never been investigated in the intervening years.

Américo R. Aguirrezabala was 32 years old at the time. On the morning of 4 December 1954, between 6 and 7 o’clock, he headed from the Los Corrales store (located on current Route 51, Km. 29) where he lived with his brother Pedro to the farm belonging to his other sibling, Asencio, 1000 meters distant to the northeast on the same road, which at the time – it is said – was a dirt track. Heading out alone on a pleasant morning, he saw a “round” aeroform some 200 meters away and in front of a tree covered hill. It was pale red in color, some 20-30 meters in diameter, suspended at an estimated height of 15 meters over the ground. It was completely silent and transparent. “I’ve lucked out!” exclaimed Américo Aguirrezabala, having overcome his initial fear and glad to see a flying saucer, much spoken-of at the time. It glowed softly, although “since the Sun was on that side – located to the front and over the object – it did bother me a little,” says the witness, who kept walking toward the farm and getting closer to the phenomenon, which remained suspended in the air. Its transparency allowed him to see movement in what appeared to be its interior, like human silhouettes waking to and fro. They were three figures, two of which were in constant movement, but he was unable to make out any other details.

“When I got closer I saw them. I got nearer and saw people. Then I wondered: ‘what might this be?’ because I always say that I’ve got an enthusiasm for these things, but no, no…it was at that time that it appeared.”

However, the sighting of the “occupants” lasted barely some seconds and was at a distance of 70 meters. The occupants seemed indifferent to the startled onlooker. It was at that time that the phenomenon suddenly vanished, giving the impression of “rising over the trees, toward the right, taking off to the south-southwest. The sun was already rising.” The disappearance of the phenomenon was nearly instantaneous and imperceptible. “It vanished, it vanished as if by magic!” he said, captured by our tape recorder.

The total duration of the sighting was a few minutes, an estimation based on the 130 meters covered by the witness. Américo Aguirrezabala tell us what he was thinking at that minute: “I stopped there, wondering, wondering what it could be, what it might not be. I thought about what I’d read regarding flying saucers, and that this was one of them. And I wondered: “Why did they come here, if they don’t want to speak to us? That’s what it was, and I always say the same. My life didn’t change after this. No, not at all. It stayed the same. Nor did it affect me physically, nor did I have similar experiences after that. My wife did. One morning, she saw some green dwarves with hats of the same color, in the cornfield behind our house,” added Aguirrezabala enthusiastically.

He continued with his story, saying that he stopped to see if there were traces of the unusual presence: “There was nothing scorched at all. I saw the plants and all looked normal.” No alterations of the environment were noticed either, only the apparition of the phenomenon described. “Then I headed onward to the farm,” he says, “and I told my brother, and since he was nearby, toward the back and close to the woodland, he saw nothing. Neither did my other brother, Pedro, who was back in the store. Later it became the talk of the town, but at the store. Some said: ‘you’re a windbag, buddy, why the hell would you see flying saucers.” So, I don’t know if that was a saucer, but the thing was there, hanging [in the air] and nothing more…and as far as what was there, all I saw was the silhouettes walking back and forth, nothing more. No eyes or ears. I can’t tell you anything else. After it happened, it was over and I forgot about it.”

His statement ends with an effort to set the journalistic version straight: “It was the rage at the moment. That’s what prompted the paper to make it known. It was a news story that I had read about at the time, because I always bought La Razón. What I don’t know is who told me about it, although it could have come up from the conversations that used to come about in my store…”

Considerations on the Case

In this incident from Saturday, 4 December 1954, we have a witness who makes a clear effort to recall a sighting that took place a long time ago, without the existence of circumstances that would prompt his memory. However, the tenacity of his memory has been bolstered by the interest and the feelings set in motion by the sight of an unusual event, such as the one described by Américo Aguirrezabala.

Bearing these factors in mind, we have proceeded to collect the most essential aspects of the eyewitness account, and come up with a sort of explanation in the measures that the information provided it will allow it.

In this regard, the early hour of the sighting should be pointed out: between 6 and 7 o’ clock, according to Aguirrezabala, and “6 in the morning” according to the journalistic version. At that time, the sun rose at 5:40 a.m., precisely in the same direction in which the alleged UFO was seen.

It has not escaped us, either, that this phenomenon presented a vision similar to that of the sun: that is to say, circular, with a similar angular size, and a color frequently seen on the horizon.

On the other hand, the differences noted are: its transparent appearance (an inconsistency?), soft glow, movement on its surface, and sudden disappearance.
If we try to reconcile both characteristics, we must refer to certain optical phenomena known as parhelia (sun dogs), through which we may understand the causes for their manifestation. In studying these phenomena, scientists noted long ago that they appear when the Sun (or the Moon) are covered by a bright white veil – a layer of high stratiform cirrus clouds. These clouds float at an altitude of six to eight kilometers and are made up by tiny ice crystals, rising and descending along air currents, reflecting by like a mirror, or else refract the solar rays that fall on them like a glass prism. It often happens that the sky seems to be completely clear, but many small ice crystals float in the atmosphere without forming a cloud. This often happens when the weather is cold and clear at that altitude.

Generally, “the sundog” comes about when the Sun is not very high over the horizon, causing a large halo that goes unseen. Sundogs tend to disappear unexpectedly, or suddenly, according the movement of the sun over the horizon, the air currents and the hexahedral ice crystals floating vertically. Sundogs are not a strange phenomenon in certain parts of the world, and they are often as bright as the Sun itself (1).
In the Province of Buenos Aires (where the incident under discussion took place), there are several journalistic reports involving parhelia. Around that time, on 25 April 1949 in Bernal (2) and on 28 February 1950 in Mar del Plata (3) just to mention a few. More recently, in February 1987 and in a space of 20 days, eight cases were recorded in San Nicolas, and similar ones in Monte Hermoso and Pigue (4).
As for the silhouettes moving within it, seen diffusely for a few seconds, we believe that the witness likely saw – influenced by the worldwide saucer flap – and convinced that he was seeing a “genuine” flying saucer, he did not hesitate to attribute any movement in the optical image to the presence of unknown entities.
