Argentina: A Strange Cattle Mutilation Case in Santa Fe

"The lifeless body of a cow with multiple incisions" was found in the locality of Calchaquí, Santa Fe," according to a statement made by ufologist Siliva Perez Simondini to AIM, noting that the animal presented "a full incision of the tongue, extraction of auditory and ocular organs, incisions to the mammary glands and the anus, and another incision across its leg." Local residents, she adds, saw lights in the sky and "circular marks were also seen on farmlands."

In this regard, she recalled that the discovery has been made in an area influenced by cases recorded earlier, such as the communities of Malabrigo and Reconquista, also in Santa Fe. "We're focusing on high strangeness cases that meet the protocol and are associated with the sightings of lights reported by local residents," adding that this case "is very important, since the animal was alive and everything occurred within a 20 hour period: it was fine on Sunday, and found dead on Monday morning."

"What does this mean? First when you find an animal with exposed bones and without any signs of bleeding, the initial fact is that the incision was not made on site, or that the surgical process was carried out with a technology that cauterized the incision without hemorrhaging," explaining that in this case, "the action of carrion animals has also been dismissed, since depredation of a mammal entails a 72-hour exposure."

She also pointed out that "the animal was monitored while it was alive, it was not ill nor did it have hoof-and-mouth disease," adding that multiple mutilations were evident: a full incision of the tongue, extraction of auditory and ocular organs, incisions to the mammary glands and the anus.

"On this occasion, what presented differently from other cases was an incision to the upper section of the rear thigh, crossing the animal’s leg. This is the first time such a thing has been observed by us and it is highly strange."

Meanwhile, Simondini told AIM that "the events are being investigated from the extraterrestrial hypothesis, since lights were seen over the area in this case, and it is a location where circular marks were found in the farmlands."

She observes that one of the local residents of the area where the dead animal was found "always remarked about manifestations of lights on the hilltops, to which other accounts by locals who have witnessed such events for a long time can be added."

"The marks on the grass coincided with the area in which the dead animal was found, and although we reached the area nearly a week after the case occurred, we are investigating the events to get closer to the truth."

Follow-Up: Ufologist Believes Alien Shooter Story is Credible

Argentina: Rosario Ufologist Says Hunter's Story is "Credible"

A Researcher Works on the Tavernise Case

After the initial astonishment and widespread diffusion in the media, the case involving the hunter from Santa Rosa who claims having slain an extraterrestrial has moved to another level: it is now a matter for investigation by UFO researchers. To one of them, the abduction was not extraterrestrial but rather military in origin. A psychiatrist wants Tavernise to submit to a deep relaxation technique to see if there are images in the depths of his mind that have not yet come to light. The case will be published in a book compiling cases that have occurred in the past 10 years.

Luis Reinoso is an attorney who has spent his life researching the UFO phenomenon. In 1965 he established the EDOVNI center in Rosario, which celebrated its 50th year of uninterrupted work on the subject. This trajectory, and the premise of doing responsible work, was acknowledged in 2011, when the Argentinean Air Force summoned the native of Rosario to form part - as an external advisor - of a special commission created to study reports by passengers and pilots alike regarding the presence or sighting of objects of unknown provenance.

Last Friday, Reinoso was spending a few days vacationing in the mountains of Córdoba when he read the article on the police report filed by Alberto Tavernise and did not hesitate to board the first bus to La Pampa. Since then, he has interviewed Tavernise a few times and also engaged in field work to learn more about the hunter's personal details and the geographic context in which the encounter between the man and the five small beings took place.

In Reinoso's opinion, the story put forth by [Tavernise] is "solid and coherent" and therefore "credible". In any event, he explained, it is not his duty to judge credibility, but to gather all of the physical evidence available on the case, whether they are photographs, ground traces, witness accounts or anything else that contributes elements. During a second stage, the investigation will continue with a visit by a psychiatrist who will meet with Tavernise, who has already expressed having no misgivings about participating in the study. The psychiatrist shall apply a deep relaxation technique that will permit images recorded in the depths of Tavernise's mind to be unlocked, should any remain.

Reinoso has a powerful theory regarding the incident with the 1.20 meter tall beings and the man's subsequent abduction: "It wasn't abduction by an extraterrestrial craft, but what we call a "government abduction" [MILABs in U.S. parlance -- SC] in which aliens serve as the pretext for covering up the true origin.

The most notable difference between one and another can be found in the consequences for the abductee: the first are not traumatic and in general promote the individual's spiritual growth; the second create traumatic memories which the person finds hard to endure, and the physical consequences are longer lasting, as occurred with Tavernise.

Behind all this, suggests the researcher, are power groups that remain out of sight, interests promoting a "New World Order" and who tirelessly experiment a variety of unthinkable weapons of mass population control on human beings.

For this reason, in order to keep their operations secret, nothing could be better than to ascribe the blame to extraterrestrials. Should they exist, and if they are among us - of which Reinoso is convinced - they have nothing to do with these experiences.

Luis Reinoso is the author of two books on the UFO phenomenon: "Tras las huellas de los ovnis" (1984) y "Nuevo Orden Mundial - Globalización y fenómeno ovni" (2005). His third work is currently in progress and surely includes a reference to the Tavernise case.

He visited our province for several days three decades ago to study the "Platner Case". According to his calculations, he has studied some 80 cases and has records of at least 20 abductions in recent times. During the interview with LA ARENA he disclosed that there are two cases which have been the focus of official criminal investigation - one due to the spontaneous participation of a prosecutor, and another due to the experiencer's own report - plus a police record. Tavernise's case would be the second police report, although the first to contain details about the alleged confrontation.

The "Comisión de Estudio de Fenómenos Aeroespaciales" was created by Resolution No. 414 / 2011 of the Chief of Staff of the Argentinean Air Force with the purpose of "organizing, coordinating and methodically carrying out investigations into possible causes of unidentified flying object sightings within airspace under National Jurisdiction," as can be read on the agency's website. In such cases where investigations have "reached a certain and exact conclusion", the order is to publicize such results.

Argentina: Sightings of UFOs and a Strange Winged Entity

Argentina: Sightings of UFOs and a Strange Winged Entity
By Pachi La Fata

One fine day, UFOs reappeared in the Province of San Luis, a space with an endless list of incidents as startling as they are enigmatic. On this occasion, the incident involved two fishermen who witnessed two flying saucers floating some 20 meters over the ground. This isn't all: in another case, a strange "winged entity" - described as white and tremendously large - also appeared. Within the scope of a new publication by the Vision Ovni group, it was noted that all of this occurred in a wilderness located 100 kilometers to the north of Cañada de San Gerónimo.

Axel Aguero, one of the witnesses, claims that on July 1, 2015 he was at the edge of a lagoon in Campo de los Avila, a place he visits regularly, in the company of a fellow fisherman. The phenomenon occurred at around 21:00 as they sat beside a small bonfire they had lit to warm themselves due to the prevailing low temperatures.

"They were looking at the buoys on the lake when [Axel] felt someone tapping him twice on the back, near his shoulder, as though trying to call his attention to something. It was strange, as they are no locals in the vicinity. He turned around to see who it was, and was stunned speechless when he saw it wasn't a person. At a distance of 100 meters, he saw two large objects similar to inverted plates, floating between 20 and 30 meters from the ground, both of them luminous and side by side," says the report. The witness declared verbatim that "one would light up brilliantly, and when it decreased its intensity, the other would increase its own, like a heartbeat." He added that both he and his friend had cellular phones on them with cameras, but faced with the shock, and he does not know why, both men were left motionless for several seconds, unable to do anything besides stare at the strange "craft" which took off swiftly toward the south in an instant, heading toward the Sierras de las Quijadas, some 60 kilometers west of San Luis along Route 147.

The second case involves Fabian Castillo, who provided his own story: "I was at the wall of the Potrero de los Funes reservoir at approximately 19:30 hours. It was already dark and no one was around due to the prevailing cold. I felt something flapping in the air, approaching me. I was surprised by the sound that was halfway between a squawk and a grunt, unusual and exaggerated. I had never heard anything like it. Suddenly, a tremendously large white winged figure passed only a few meters away from me."

The man estimates that each wing was at least four meters long. "It was neither a duck nor a condor. It was an entity, like a gargoyle or something like it," he said. It passed so close to where he stood that he was able to feel the air from the flapping wings, imitating the sound they made: "boooof, booof".

The witness added that the mysterious "entity" headed toward the Quebrada (a hard-to-reach location due to the steepness of the terrain), stating that he felt such fear that he did not remember at what point he returned home.

In his account, Castillo remarked on a situation that repeats in numerous cases involving eyewitnesses of the unknown. He explained that he had kept his story to himself to avoid becoming the target of mockery.

This is not the winged entity's first appearance, either.

The Visión OVNI group recalls that two years ago, a 60-year-old man, in charge of property with cabins on it at Potrero de los Funes, told of a similar experience. It occurred on a day of dense fog as he ate breakfast one morning. He saw a strange movement in the playground for the children of the cabins' occupants. Upon looking closely, he saw a very large white winged creature. "It looked like a person, but large. Like an angel or something similar. When it flew off, its wings nearly covered the entire site," the witness stated. There are two other reports as well.

Mexico: Senior Citizen Allegedly Run Over by UFO

A senior citizen from the community of Faisán, belonging to the Paso de Ovejas municipality, was run over by an alleged UFO that tried to abduct him, according to the injured party.

The incident occurred on the Salmoral - Paso de Ovejas segment of the state highway as the man identified as Francisco Acosta Tostado, 68, rode along in his bicycle. He was found in a prone position in the bushes on the side of the road, seriously injured and completely out of his mind, saying that he had been run over by a UFO that was attempting to abduct him.

Policarpio Carvajal, an engineer, happened to be driving along the road when he saw a body lying at the roadside. He descended from his vehicle to take a closer look. He subsequently requested assistance from the Red Cross Emergency Services at Cardel, but due to the lack of vehicles, which are still out of order, the emergency call was redirected to the paramedic unit of the Municipal Firefighters and Civil Defense of the neighboring municipality of La Antigua.

This unit provided first aid treatment to Francisco Acosta, who reported having a deep injury to the back of his head, presenting a serious hemorrhage. State Police officers from Cardel went to the site to take full notice of the facts. The injured party was transferred to the regional hospital at Cardel.

Argentina: Hunter Claims He Shot "An Extraterrestrial"

Argentina: Hunter Claims He Shot An Extraterrestrial

"They are grey and have four fingers on their hands and four toes on their feet. They stand approximately a meter and fifteen centimeters," says Alberto Tavernise, who says he was later abducted.

The uncanny story could be the plot of a science fiction film. However, it concerns the dramatic story told by a resident of the community of Luan Toro, located 20 kilometers south of Santa Rosa, La Pampa.

Alberto Tavernise, 59, shared his experience with Cronica - an encounter he will never forget. "A few months ago I was hunting in a nearby field, and I saw something going on at a hunting stand. That's when I was surrounded by five extraterrestrials," he said.

Regarding their physical appearance, he stated that "they were grey, with four fingers on their hands and four toes on their feet, standing approximately a meter and fifteen centimeters tall. They looked like they show them in the movies."

Contact with these grey creatures did not end there. "They came to my house and abducted me, in a subsequent instance."

The critical moment of this narrative came about, without question, with the alleged death of one of the interplanetary visitors.

"One day I went out to hunt them. We had a confrontation during one encounter and I shot the one I referred to as The Scout, because he always went ahead," he explained. "When I approached the body, there was no blood in the wound, and three others came at me. I returned to the site a few minutes later, and the body was no longer there, since it had been taken away by a spacecraft," he concluded.

The physical consequences of the incident have been, as in many other cases, insomnia, headache and sensitivity to light.

Opinions are divided on the subject. UFO researchers are being guarded, the police is keeping silent, and local residents remain astonished.

[Transcription of the interview between the CRONICA reporter and the experiencer]:

Hello, good afternoon this is and advance of what is going to be the cover story tomorrow on Cronica. Alberto Tavernise, a resident of La Pampa, age 59, reportedly killed an extraterrestrial being. Just like you heard it. This was the interview he granted Cronica a few moments ago.

CRÓNICA: How did you get there? Is this a place you visit frequently?
ALBERTO No, I started going to the hunting blind, then I saw something coming and going and it drew my attention, since I've been hunting for 10-12 years and I found this abnormal. One day I decided to do a walk-around of the hunting blind and that's when everything occurred. They realized I had found them, and on the 9th of August, five of them came at me. I was surrounded. Two of them got under the hunting blind, and when I went to shoot at them, they put me to sleep. When I awoke, they were no longer there.
CRÓNICA: Tell us, what were they, Alberto?
ALBERTO They were exactly...they had four fingers on each hand, four toes on their feet, a heel, standing 1.15 more or less, grey-colored, and well...that was happened on the 9th of August...
CRÓNICA: What about their heads? What were they like, Alberto?
ALBERTO: Their heads were like they're shown in the drawings and in movies - inverted, large eyes
CRÓNICA: So you're telling us that they realized you had seen them.
ALBERTO Yes, I had seen them there, yes. But later on I had, shall we say...it became hard for me to go back due to the fear factor. When I went back --
CRÓNICA: That's OK, fine, but were you...did they kidnap you, Alberto? Did they take you away?
ALBERTO Yes, yes, in the end they did.
CRÓNICA: Uh-huh.
ALBERTO So what happened? They came to my house, then I felt rage, and I went looking for them. [inaudible] there was always one up front, the one I called The Scout, it made no noise, had no odor, nothing. So I had a confrontation with one of them, I shot him a few times. When I approached the spot, it was lying face up; there was no blood or anything. Three more rushed me...
CRÓNICA: Yes...
ALBERTO ...and I held on to my rifle, threw two smoke bombs, the kind you use in the war, since I more or less had an idea what I was facing, but it wasn't that bad, and the three new ones went to where the fallen one lay. I left, and when I came back, they had taken him away. Then about a week to ten days later, I saw plastic in the field [?] and two flying saucers were in view, one in front of the hunting blind, some 120 meters from it, and another to its left, some 150 meters away, and the residue from combustion was a black plastic that emerged and stuck to the grass, shall we say...
CRÓNICA: Yes...
ALBERTO ...stuck to the soil, to the grass, and measuring 80 meters by 150 meters. It's all documented the prints. I took photographs, everything, everything.
CRÓNICA: Alberto, where you able to photograph one of the beings?
ALBERTO No, no I didn't. I didn't have time for anything. All I have is the photo of the flying saucers, where they descended, the combustion residue, and then well...I had had contact with them some four or five times. Six or seven, maybe.
CRÓNICA: During your first contact, you tell me that they put you to sleep. Do you think you were abducted?
ALBERTO I think so. But I couldn't calculate the time because I didn't have a wristwatch on me. It's broken and in my jacket pocket. I wasn't able to figure out the time. When I awoke they were no longer there.
CRÓNICA: Any physical aftereffects, Alberto? Have you felt any changes in your body?
ALBERTO: Yes, yes. It changed my life. Because they took me away for two hours [on a second occasion]. Let me tell you, I'm telling you how things happened sequentially. After the flying saucers came [I never returned] to the hunting blind until the 7th of September...
CRÓNICA: Yes.
ALBERTO: Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Everything was quiet until Saturday at 12:45 a.m. when a flying saucer went over the blind and it took me. I managed to look at the time when they dropped me off, I was sufficiently conscious of where I'd been, but they dropped me off at Choperch.
CRÓNICA: Alberto, where were you?
ALBERTO: In a place that was all white and black lines, symmetrical. I was lying down, only able to move my eyes. I had one on my left and three on my right.
CRÓNICA: In other words, you're certain that you were aboard a spaceship?
ALBERTO Yes. No, I don't know, can't tell you whether it was a spaceship, but it sucked me [up]. The light came, hovered over the hunting blind, and lit everything up in an amber yellow hue and didn't give me a chance to do anything [illegible] nearly two hours went past. When they dropped me off again at the chair in the blind, over by the lagoon some 50 meters distant I could see a stag drinking water. You know what that stag looked like to me? Like a zebra, due to the trauma I was experiencing. It's one thing to tell the story; it's another to experience it. Let me tell you - I spent three days in bed, sleeping with my eyes open...
CRÓNICA: Mm-hm.
ALBERTO…with a headache that lasted nearly two months. Had to go to the doctor, have tests performed, to a neurologist to have an EEG, to the ophthalmologist, and I was left with aftereffects in my eyes that have lasted to this day. My eyes have troubled me since that day.

A Cautionary Note

Luis Burgos of the Fundación Argentina de Ovnilogía has made cautionary comments regarding the veracity of the claims made by Alberto Tavernise, the "extraterrestrial killer" of La Pampa Province. In a comment to our INEXPLICATA posting, he noted that the experiencer was "a fable-spinner" of a kind that had not been seen in Argentina since the 1960s or 1970s. Elswhere, he added that his organization had been looking into the case since November 2014, but faced a hostile reaction on the part the experiencer when the latter's statements were not believed.

Mexico: "Webcams Mexico" Cameras Pick Up UFO Over Colima's Volcán de Fuego

It is cylindrical in shape, moves from right to left in an ascending position, and no one knows what it is.
The State Civil Protection Unit asked the general population to avoid any activity in a five kilometer radius of the crater.

The object was picked up by fixed-position cameras belonging to Webcams de Mexico on Saturday, July 4 2015. These cameras record activity around Colima's Volcán de Fuego.

Volcán de Fuego expelled incandescent material on Saturday night and early Sunday morning. Activity at the colossal volcano began around 22:00 hours on Saturday and remained constant during the early hours of Sunday.

In previous days, the State Civil Protection Unit asked the general population to refrain from any activity in a five kilometer radius around the crater on account of ash falls, and to avoid staying in the canyons near the volcano.

Civil Protection cautioned that while Volcán de Fuego remains in an active phase, there are instruments that enable identifying in advance if an event of greater magnitude should come about.

Mexico: Truckers Startled by UFOs in Yucatán

In Eastern Yucatan, UFO encounters are common among tractor-trailer operators who drive the Mérida-Tizimín Route.

BY JORGE MORENO/SIPSE - Mérida, Yucatan - A few years ago we published an eyewitness account by a tractor-trailer driver who witnessed a UFO along the Mérida-Tizmín Federal Highway in the vicinity of the San Antonio Cámara police station, a story which is not unique. In January 2015, as well as last month, two other sightings also occurred and were reported by tractor-trailer operators following the same road.

The latest cases were reported by Sebastián Robles, who became an eyewitness in January. In June, it was one of his co-workers who brought a new case to his attention, which was surprising, as it took place at the very same site.

He says that he stopped at that segment of the highway to have dinner and buy a coffee in late January. The time was around 11:00 p.m. and as he boarded his trailer (it was parked from West to East, in other words, facing Tizimin) he saw a strange light through his rear view mirror.

"It caught my attention, because the light appeared to be moving. It went by very quickly. I turned around and caught a glimpse, and several ideas crossed my head - a sort of excitement, because I'd always wanted to see a UFO, and now I'm certain it's what I saw."

He adds: "When I saw it in the mirror for a moment, I thought it was a shooting star, but upon seeing it directly, I realized that its movements were irregular: it went up, came down, until it picked up more speed and vanished into the horizon, heading west."

More lights are seen in the sky.

"What's more, I recalled that some co-workers had told me the same some months earlier, about UFOs having been seen along this stretch of road. The excitement was considerable. The truth is I do believe in that. My dad and granddad would tell me that back on the ranch (in Villahermosa) they had the chance to see them at least three times."

It should be noted that when I visited the scene, only one person confirmed that seeing UFOs was common a long time ago, "but many people, especially those who live around these parts, see it as a natural thing. They're not afraid or distressed by them. On the contrary, I remember a time when some tourists came to eat here at the luncheonette and when they went to the restrooms, exclaimed in surprise that they were seeing those craft, three of them in a single row, and even took photos of them. Who knows if the photos came out? It was nighttime, but they were clearly visible," he recalled.

These reports are very similar, in fact, to the ones I covered in Temax, a community located nearby, and the dates also match. This makes it very likely that the same unidentified flying object (UFO) was involved.

I was told in San Antonio that a person from the community of Dzoncauich (some 10 kilometers distant) had videotaped a UFO, but we couldn't find him. In fact, no one knew his name and no one in this town could provide any information about this.

I interviewed several people from nearby sites, and as a curious side note, a lady from San Antonio approached me, curious as to why I was interviewing people. When she learned that the subject involved UFOs, she crossed herself and quickly went away, as if it involved devilry.

Argentina: 50th Anniversary of the Argentinean Antarctic UFO Sighting

Argentina: 50th Anniversary of the Argentinean Antarctic UFO Sighting

The UFO That Paraded Across the Antarctic and Triggered the Argentinean Psychosis
By Guillermo dos Santos Coelho

It had all of the ingredients. An exotic locale, experienced witnesses and a season that was ripe for fostering the imagination, shortly before man’s arrival on the Moon. It is for this reason that the UFO which paraded across the Antarctic 50 years ago was a landmark that had pride of place in the covers of all of Argentinian dailies, triggering a collective psychosis that lasted that entire winter and a little longer.

Tomorrow will mark half a century since the main sighting. While it was later learned that previous episodes existed, it was on July 3, 1965 when a small number of people, the only ones for hundreds of miles around, found themselves staring at the skies in fascination.

The Argentinean base – Decepción – held fewer than 20. At 19:40 hours that Saturday, the night had been clear and peaceful for a good while, and it was then that the weatherman noticed it. The Navy communiqué would subsequently speak in terms of a “lenticular mass” – two concave surfaces stuck together, like a lentil.

This “lentil”, according to various accounts, moved across the sky changing colors, the predominant ones being red and green, putting on quite a show: a display of yellow, blue, green, orange and white hues.

The weatherman summoned everyone. Except for the radioman, who happened to be on duty, the entire detachment was able to see the object and follow it with the detail provided by their binoculars and theodolites. Some 10 to 15 kilometers distant, the object was traveling in a generally eastward direction, although it made momentary westward changes at some 45 degrees. Its speed was variable, according to reports; it made no noise whatsoever, and at times remained suspended in space. The Navy communiqué indicated that the display lasted some 15 or 20 minutes under excellent visibility conditions. The protagonists would later state it lasted longer than that.

Civilian meteorologist Jorge Hugo Stanich reached for his camera and photographed the object as best he could. Nothing appeared on any of the photos – it was a low-sensitivity photographic emulsion for the prevailing darkness and he lacked a tripod. A curious side note to all this was the disruption of geo-magnetic instrumentation which accompanied the sighting.

A few days later, the story exploded, commanding the headlines of all domestic newspapers. Clarín spoke to the commander of the Decepción base – Lt. Cmdr. Daniel Perissé.

“We have only seen an unidentified flying object. According to the information in our possession, this was the same one witnessed by the Chilean and British detachments. I can add that this curious event was also seen on earlier dates, and always involved a single object.”

This information was indeed confirmed by the staff of Great Britain’s “B” base and the Pedro Aguirre Cerdá, which stands abandoned today. Even there, Corporal Uladislao Durán Martínez managed to take ten photographs, but months would go by before they were developed, following the personnel rotation, as no lab facilities were available. The corporal returned to Santiago in January ’66 with the film, which was forgotten. Either a conspiracy or blank negatives – you can choose your own adventure.

All this was followed by an agitated month of July. With the Argentinean delight for psychoses, UFO accounts appeared throughout the country, each of them commanding a good number of inches of page space.

First, seven teenagers near Pilar on a camping trip saw a UFO. Then there was a case near the Morón air base. Lights were photographed in the sky over Bahía Blanca. Similar accounts were repeated in Mendoza, Resistencia, Rosario and Mar del Plata. On August 1, binoculars at the Palermo Racetrack, usually aimed at the ground, focused on the sky on account of a strange balloon. The whole event lasted a few minutes, until it was announced over the loudspeakers that “only five minutes were left for placing bets.” Argentina had become a sort of UFO garage.

On August 4, the La Plata Observatory soothed the UFO effervescence that had so many people looking at the sky rather than the ground. After consultations made with centers specializing in the tracking of artificial satellites, it was explained that the U.S. Echo II satellite, launched on January of that year from Vandenberg AFB for communications duty, could have been seen from the Decepción base at the same day and time as the UFO sighting. [The Echo] was an enormous aluminized plastic balloon, highly reflective.

The tide subsided, although more eyewitness accounts took place that year. In August, officers from the Punta de Vacas squadron in Mendoza reported seeing a UFO playing in the heavens for some eight minutes. Later, in the capital of La Rioja, two men reported seeing a UFO fly directly over the car in which they drove. In early October, at Villa Characato, in the department of Cruz del Eje (Córdoba), a teacher and a group of female students claimed seeing a 30 centimeter device coming and going in the air at some 400 meters overhead before vanishing.

One of the cases appearing in the newspapers during these months occurred in the city. A child attending the No.9 School saw a light changing colors and making strange movements. The mother also saw the object and corroborated the story. The father, somewhat more skeptical, told Clarin with a thin smile: “He’s not a fantasy-prone boy, but he’s that age.”

And then…

Two years after the sightings, volcanic activity caused there to be no winter activity on Decepción Island. UFO sightings were ongoing in the ‘70s and ‘80s, but nothing came close to the 1965 wave, the Year of the UFO. The experience left a deep mark on Lt. Cmdr. Daniel Perissé, who went on to become one of the country’s best-known ufologists, first as a member of the Comisión Permanente de Investigacion del Fenomeno Ovni (Standing Committee on UFO Research) and later as a civilian.

Argentina: Cattleman Blames Herd Death on Chupacabras

The cattleman, over the course of the weekend, visited his property located in the Cuña Muerta wilderness of Tartagal, discovering that two cows and two goats had been mysteriously slain.

The four animals were missing their tongues and entrails, with no visible traces of blood. In his complaint to the police, the cattleman stated that the notorious character known as the Chupacabras could be to blame.

40 Goats Killed in Coronel Cornejo, But No One Knows Who or What's to Blame

In a single night the predator eliminated sixteen goats from the caretaker's surroundings, despite the presence of six dogs. During its second attack, it killed twenty-four, "toying with them and making numbers [sic]."

The caretakers ascertained that in all of their years, they had never suffered a similar attack by creatures who left no traces. In barely two nights, a family of goat livestock suffered the rage of a strange being that ended the lives of forty goats by slitting their throats.

The mysterious case kept livestock ranchers from the locality of Coronel Cornejo on alert. This community is less than 20 kilometers distant from the city of Tartagal, and the attacks occurred on Saturday and Sunday evening.

The family of Jaime Villalba is still astonished by what what happened only meters from where the caretaker and his family were sleeping. Forty large goats were slain with identical injuries to the throat.

The Villalba's smallhold is located some 2 kilometers north of Coronel Cornejo and its owner had though to sell the young goats for the new years' festivities. "We do not know happened, but on Saturday, when the caretaker awoke, we found sixteen dead animals scattered throughout the yard, all of them with the same injuries to the throat," she said, adding: "During the evening of the first storm on Friday, I heard Caschi [one of the dogs] crying and pawing the door to be let in. It was already dark and I opened to let him in. That's when I saw something or someone jumping the fence, as if running off into the wilderness. It was huge and very agile, perhaps a jaguar. Had it been a hungry puma, it would have also eaten them. Besies, the dogs would have attacked it."

"What's odd is that [the goats] made no noise when they were in danger. We had nearly 200 animals," the caretakers told El Tribuno. "We don't mean to alarm anyone, but to kill 40 large goats - since they didn't attack the kids or the newborns - it must be a very powerful animal or creature, able to catch and kill animals in a confined space without them scattering and voicing their terror," they said, still overwhelmed by the death toll.

The mystery came in two separate episodes for the Villalbas: on Saturday morning they incinerated the first 16 dead goats, without thinking that 24 more animals would appear lifeless in their yard, with strange tooth marks in their throats, but without these injuries producing a loss of blood, another detail that did not go unnoticed. "Only a savage bite could have done that."

No one can imagine what could have happened to it. "We have several animals left, so we will stand guard all night to see what attacked them so stealthily. If it's an animal, we'll feed it lead," said one of the caretakers.

"We reject the possibility that it could have been dogs or wild animals. Maybe it's a person who doesn't like us, or some wandering spirit, or else it's a predator. This is the first time something so terrifying has befallen us," said the owner of the decimated herd yesterday.

The story of the family harmed by the predator attack leads us to the possibility of cryptids, that is to say, creatures existing in the popular culture but whose actual existence is not proven. Among them we can find the Ucumar and the Chupacabras.
