El Salvador: The January 1969 San Salvador Flyover

January 1969. A UFO flies over San Salvador, causing alarm among capital city dwellers.

At 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 15 1969, an unidentified flying object triggered alarm among those Salvadorans who were able to see it over the city; a similar incident took place in 2020.

Only fifteen days after El Salvador welcomed the arrival of 1969, the daily lives of capital city dwellers were shaken by a strange event.

It took place at 3:30 in the afternoon sharp, under cloudy skies that prevented taking sharp photographs of the sky.  A group of citizens was a party to the event, or at least that is what was published in the January 16 edition of El Diario de Hoy newspaper.

Not only was the feature published. The event headlined the issue's cover.

 Furthermore, employees of this communication media witnessed the event.

According to details furnished by said publications, the parties who alerted journalists of the event were two carpenters - Daniel Lauda Martinez and Manuel Martinez, who were working on the terrace of El Diario de Hoy.

"...to their great surprise, they saw how many thousands of meters above their heads, a strange unidentified body was fluttering above..." reads the start of the story.

Those who managed to see it described the unidentified flying object (UFO) as dish-shaped, shiny, swift and issuing intermittent plumes of black smoke.

Aside from what seen by employees of El Diario de Hoy, the newsroom received phone calls from persons claiming having seen the strange object.

There were even those who suggested that perhaps it was a manned space mission by the former USSR - the Soyuz 4 mission, launched on 14 January of that year. The mission lifted off from the Baikonur Cosmodrome after a day's delay.

The UFO flew for some time over San Salvador become vanishing toward Cerro San Jacinto.

In this regard, it is worth noting that in 2020, a young woman caught a UFO flying over the above mentioned summit on video. The clip was shared on TikTok in 2022 and it went viral within a short period of time.

Amid news stories of three former U.S. military men claim that the United States has 'alien spaceships' and 'non-human biological remains ' in its possession, it is worth wondering if these sightings over Salvadoran skies were indeed spaceships.
